"I'll just pick some stores and you can choose." He also had to remember to talk to Charles about what they could do for ID for him. He could get away without a Social Security card because he could easily pass as an Englishman, but they still needed something.
"Okay, well, we can look at the grocery store and you can see what sounds alright to you. We have a lot of different fish to choose from. And there's red meat like beef and lamb or white meat like chicken. Whatever you feel comfortable with, I guess. Also, I'd assume any feline Animals would need meat. I can't imagine they're suddenly vegetarian just because it's a different world."
Fiyero is already kind of wrinkling his nose as a few of the animals Kitty is mentioning. Even though they're obviously animals, not Animals.
"Maybe stick with mostly vegetarian and fish," he suggests. They can hash out the details later. "That's what I'm mostly used to. I mean, I know it's fine, it's not a big deal if something has meat, it's just... kind of weird, I guess," he answers, running a hand through his hair.
"So pescatarian, easy. How do you feel about milk and eggs? Because we have plant-based milk if cows milk is not to your taste and there's often egg substitutes. But it means checking packaging to ensure you're not eating things you don't want to." And if it feels like Kitty is asking a lot of questions, it's because he really cares about these kinds of things and there's also the fact that he has no idea if eating things he's never eaten before might make him sick.
"No judgement from me. I may not eat completely kosher but the things I do, I take really seriously."
Fiyero squints at Kitty mentioning milk at first, but then he clarifies cow's milk. Could've been human milk, for all Fiyero knows. "That's fine, I guess?" he answers with a shrug. "I've had eggs. Not much milk, but it doesn't bother me." Conceptually, at least.
Some of it, he's honestly not sure how he feels until he's tried it. "I mean, it's really all fine, since you don't have Animals here. I'm good with anything," he lies casually.
Even strolling along slowly, their conversation has taken them back to their rooms, though Fiyero leans against the wall rather than head inside immediately.
"Okay, well, maybe we can look at starting with cow's milk and if that doesn't feel right, we can try some of the others." Really, none of this needs to be planned right now. It's stupid o'clock at night - Kitty actually has no idea what the time is - and they've both had a big night and he's honestly rather tired, ready for a shower and to collapse into bed. He's just gotten stuck on making sure that the things Fiyero wants and needs are available to him in order to make sure he's comfortable, the same way he would with any of the new kids that come through with little to their name.
Only he finds himself getting lost in Fiyero's ridiculous blue eyes and stunning smile whenever he aims it at him and he really needs to get that under control.
"Sorry. I'm probably overwhelming you. I just get the idea in my head and... I just want to make sure you have what you need. There is a reason I'm called a Mother Hen all the time."
Fiyero gives Kitty a warm smile at his apology - it's definitely edging towards a sleepy kind of smile, rather than the bright perky one he's been using so far.
"You know 'Prince' is just a title right? I don't need to be pampered, I'm fine with just going with the flow, not stressing about stuff like that," he says, somewhere between reassurance and masking the underlying terror at being in a new world all on his own. "I mean, not that I mind a bit of pampering," he adds playfully, continuing to smooth stuff over with humour, as he pushes off from the wall and opens the door to his room.
“I remember when I came here. I was terrified. And I came from Illinois, not some alternate world.” Not that Fiyero had said he was afraid and, even if he was, Kitty didn’t expect him to admit it. While he’d definitely figured out that Fiyero masked his real feelings with humour, he also realised that he was pretty good at hiding the truth.
“I just try to be the person I had, to make it a little easier.” Kitty offers his own soft small, as if to say ‘it’s okay if you’re not okay’ without actually saying the words. “Goodnight Fiyero. You know where I am if you need anything.”
Fiyero's face may not betray very much, but the smile does have a little bit more of an affectionate and grateful look to it than just the charming playfulness. Though that's also the only acknowledgement he gives. Kitty's made it a lot easier, not just a little, but there's only so much gratitude Fiyero can show without admitting how lost he felt to begin with.
"I think I can find it without getting lost," Fiyero affirms. "I'll see you tomorrow." He gives Kitty a friendly clap on the shoulder, then heads inside - before pausing in the doorway. "And don't get too worried if it takes a while. I usually sleep in." He grins, still all sparkle and charm and humour, despite everything.
Kitty smiles softly at him and steps backwards towards his own bedroom door. As long as Fiyero remembers which side Kitty's room is on, he'll be fine. His bedroom is stocked with the essentials, like towels and body wash so he should be fine.
"Unless there's an emergency, I will also be sleeping in." And with one last smile, Kitty phases through his bedroom door and disappears into his room.
Fiyero watches Kitty head to his door, and he's glad he did, because that's definitely an unusual sight. Well, he clearly wasn't lying. That's... something.
"Now that's just showing off!" Fiyero says (or yells) after him, hopefully loud enough that Kitty can hear it. It doesn't occur to him just now that maybe there are people in some of these other rooms who can also hear it while they're trying to sleep.
He closes the door behind him finally, leaning against it and closing his eyes, and he lets out a long sigh. He's exhausted, but for the first time since he got here, there's a little less of a knot in his chest. He takes a long, warm shower, and after that he pretty much passes out as soon as he hits the pillow.
