Kitty is mostly quiet throughout the ride, only really speak to answer any questions Fiyero has about places they drive past. Once they pull up outside the school, Kitty offers his gratitude to the driver and leads the way up the front steps.
"He's not my driver. He's an Uber driver. We have this app - application - on our phones where we pay someone to pick us up and take us where we need to go. You usually don't get the same driver." Pushing over the Mansion doors, Kitty leads Fiyero inside with a hand on his arm.
It's warm inside the foyer. "Home sweet home. C'mon, we'll stop past my room to get you something to sleep in and I'll show you to your room."
“Just think of all the new people you can charm with different Ubers. Though sometimes you’ll just have to have me as your driver.” If they can get the ID thing sorted, maybe Kitty could even teach him, though they’d have to start out slow while Fiyero is still figuring out the rest of the world.
“I don’t know why I’m shocked you live in a castle. You’re a prince. But I’m also still kind of shocked.” Maybe because he didn’t know anyone else who lived in an actual castle.
Leading him up the stairs and down the long hallways is easy enough. There’s lifts, of course, for Charles but this is the best way to familiarise Fiyero with the layout. There’s nothing really important on this floor, it’s mostly been separated from the student area and the school portion so the adults can have a little more freedom. Kitty’s room is between two empty ones and he opens the door and leads the way in. It’s nothing extravagant; a queen size bed with cozy covers in a navy blue, wood furniture that matches most of the Mansion. His desk is a mess; a computer, laptop and tablet buried under note pads and papers and all kinds of pens. At least he’d put his dirty washing in the hamper. He d the curtains closed and then turns to the dresser to find some pants and a t-shirt for Fiyero to sleep in.
“We’ll go shopping tomorrow and get you some basics but for now, these will be far comfier for sleeping in.” He holds out the sweats and top. “I should show you the kitchen after your room.”
Fiyero knows how to bike, so there's that, but the weather isn't really suited, and there's a lot of those metal carriages they call cars whizzing around. Seems maybe a bit risky. Besides, he's gotten the impression you don't really need it in this city. Though this school is a bit further out.
"Used to live. It's been years," Fiyero clarifies, chatting as he follows Kitty, looking around and familiarising himself with his surroundings. "We-- Glinda and I, we have rooms in one of the main towers in Emerald City. Though I often sleep in the Guard Quarters. You know, for work." Or at least using work as an excuse.
This place reminds him more of Shiz and the dormitories there. Makes sense, since it's a school. Kitty's room too, is more like a dorm than a full apartment. Fiyero isn't shy about wandering around and looking at things; it's another way of telling he's rich and confident, the way he strolls around like he owns the place. He glances over the desk, but he's neither nosy nor interested enough to actually read anything.
The clothes he's handed definitely are comfortable, and he tucks them under his arms for now with a soft 'thank you'. It will be nice to get more alternative clothes.
"Do you ever miss the castle?" Kitty doesn't ask if it's normal or not in Oz to share a room before marriage; mostly because it's not his business but also he knew couples that had their own room for various reasons and he wasn't about to judge. Besides, it made sense that he slept in the guard quarters. That was no different to him and the rest of the X-Men all remaining in the Mansion.
Kitty watches Fiyero look around his room with a hip resting on his dresser and arms crossed over his chest. "I think we'll give you the room next door for now. You can always move later if you want, but until you're familiar with the layout and whatnot, this'll be easier for you to find me if you need help. Is it warm enough in here or do you want me to find you some more blankets?"
Kitty just nods because he doesn't really know what else to say to that. If Fiyero wants to tell him about it, he will and it's too late to push him and risk ruining a good night.
"Well, I'll be right here if you need another blanket or something. And we can look into getting you more personalised comforters and stuff in the next few days." What? He just wanted Fiyero to be comfortable. It was probably going to be a lot more chaotic in the coming weeks than it had been in the last nine days, especially living in a house full of mutants. "In the student areas, yeah. But Charles had small ensuite bathrooms added to a fair few of these rooms to avoid awkwardness. It's nothing fancy, just a shower, sink and toilet but at least it's private. C'mon I'll show you your room."
Fiyero doesn't get an amused but also charmed smile at Kitty promising him personalised comforters. Fiyero is very aware that offering someone free housing is not exactly the norm in this world, yet he's going above and beyond.
"Ah, well, already better than my school days," Fiyero answers, turning towards the door and strolling alongside Kitty.
As they head out the door, Fiyero can't help but give a soft, teasing few clucks, good-naturedly nudging Kitty with his elbow.
"Yeah, I think there were a few too many occasions where Scott walked in on Logan with his ass out and so the decision was made that maybe we needed our own bathrooms." Of course, Kitty had also seen Logan with his ass out and he didn't see the same issue that Scott did but Scott was a prude and obnoxiously straight.
Kitty is halfway out the door when Fiyero... clucks at him? And he turns on the spot with a brow raised to stare at the other man. "Did you just... make chicken noises at me?"
Fiyero snorts, not knowing these names but understanding the reactions. He probably wouldn't have been bothered either though. A prude, he is not.
At Kitty stopping to look at him, Fiyero just grins brightly and puts an arm around his shoulders to playfully squeeze and shake him a little bit. "Just appreciating my new mother hen of a friend," he explains, before letting go of him and walking on past.
Scott was going to have a field day with Fiyero. Kitty was actually really looking forward to introducing them without giving Scott any warning for Fiyero's tactile nature and general charm that was easily misconstrued as flirting.
Kitty snorts a laugh and shakes your head. "You realise that is exactly why Jubilee gave you my number, right?"
And Fiyero will have a great time being inflicted on people. Negative attention isn't necessarily terrible, and he loves winning people over.
"I do now," he answers cheerfully. "This one?" he asks, pointing at a door next to Kitty's room, and trying the handle. If not, maybe he'll be the one walking in on someone's bare ass, which is also a fun way to make new friends.
No doubt Jubilee had just assumed that Kitty would take him under his wing in the same way he'd taken some of the younger kids who had been riddled with anxiety about leaving their homes or those who had come from homes they were no longer welcome in.
"This is the one." The door should be unlocked, the keys usually left on the dresser, not that anyone really bothered locking their doors. "After you."
The door opens and Fiyero steps right on inside. It's dark, and it takes him a moment to find the light switch. Everything is just a little bit different here from Oz, though he's used to electric lights from the Emerald City.
Unsurprisingly, it's pretty similar to Kitty's, just emptier of clutter and less personal. But the bed looks nice, and for tonight, that's honestly all he needs. He drops his new clothes on the bed and starts peeling off layers at the same time as he looks around.
The unoccupied bedrooms are all furnished with a decent bed - single beds in the student areas and at least double beds for the adults - a side table, desk and dresser but all the details are rather generic. Whereas Kitty has navy sheets, the ones in here are white and there's only two pillows as opposed to Kitty's five. He also has a rug and his own curtains as well as all the personal trinkets and decorations he's collected since he move in 20 years ago.
They can work on dressing up Fiyero's room more to his tastes if that's something he wants to do. And then Fiyero is getting undressed and Kitty pointedly looks away. "Want me to leave you to it?"
Fiyero only gets about as far as he was already dancing with at the club. At least the sweat has more or less dried. The jackets get deposited somewhat haphazardly across a chair. For all his fancy attire, he's clearly not precious about it, but that much was probably already obvious.
"Uhhh," he answers, considering for a moment as he rolls up his sleeves. "Oh, kitchen!" he remembers suddenly, and he's already heading towards the door again.
Most of the alcohol got worked out through the dancing, and Fiyero is pretty tired from all that. But he has a habit of not going to bed until he's fully exhausted. In Oz, he'd gotten slightly better at making sure that happened early enough that he didn't sleep all day anymore, but he's reverted a little bit after coming here.
“Right!” Kitty follows Fiyero out the door and then takes I’ve leading the way. The kitchen is on the ground floor, tucked out of the way. It’s nothing fancy and while the appliances are modern and there’s several dishwashers and fridges, it’s still on the smaller size, far more accurate to what the building was when owned by the wealthy Xavier family and long before Charles turned it into a school.
Fiyero does his best to pay attention to where they're going, and he's got a decent sense of direction. And he's not afraid to wander until he finds the right way, for that matter.
"Um, let's see. Icebox, stove... Makes coffee.. Also heats things, I think.. Cleans stuff.." Fiyero says, pointing at the fridge, stove, coffee maker, microwave and dishwasher -- the last one he only recognises because it's half open. There's a couple things he's not familiar with. "But I should let you know, I have no idea how to cook. Or really use these things."
The icebox is simple enough. Cold inside. The stove, he could probably figure out. The coffee machine is a mystery.
"Ah, yeah, spot on. But we just call it a fridge. The icebox, I mean." Pulling open the doors of the closest one, Kitty waves his hand towards the contents. "Most of it is communal but if it's specifically named, that means it's not there for sharing." He closes the fridge and points to the cupboard above the coffee maker. "There's a kettle in there as well as all the things you need for tea, coffee and hot chocolate.
"Snacks in the pantry over there. There are labels for the dishwasher so we know when it's clean and when it's dirty." Kitty shrugs. "I also don't cook beyond instant noodles or toast because I am apparently a terrible cook."
Fiyero pokes around as Kitty gives him a tour. He appreciates good food though, so he knows what things should taste like - he's just not sure how to make it happen.
He opens the snack cupboard, because, well. The chips were great, but it's been a while since dinner, which wasn't huge to begin with. Not exactly having a lot of disposable money is tricky.
He pulls out a box of Pop-Tarts (Brown Sugar Cinnamon), which don't have a name on them and look yummy. He shows it to Kitty with eyebrows raised questioningly, before he opens it, just to make sure it's alright.
Kitty nods that, yes they're free to eat. He knows there's a variety in there and that they'll be restocked in the next grocery shop anyway as there are some things they just always keep on hand. "You can heat 'em up in a toaster if you want or just eat them as they are."
Taking a seat on one of the bar stools, Kitty leans back against the island counter. "Toaster is in that cupboard there. Or you can use the microwave."
Fiyero pulls the wrapping off one of them (always so much wrapping on all the food), breaking off a piece and tasting it, then gives a hum. It is yummy! But he feels like it would be better hot.
He opts for the toaster, because that one he more or less understands. The bits inside get hot, so the food gets hot. Microwave? He has no clue. Might as well be magic.
He doesn't ask for help, but it's probably a little bit entertaining to watch him pull the toaster out, trying to figure it out. Right, the cord thing with the plug goes into -- there's some of those holes in the wall. He knows more or less what to do, he's just almost never done it before, so it's like watching a small child figure it out - even if it doesn't take that long.
He takes the poptarts out of their wrapping and puts them in the toaster, bending over to squint at the numbers, before he picks up the box to read on the back to see if there's instructions. 'Lowest heat', alright. So setting it to 1. Finally he pushes the lever down, then leans over it to watch, seeing the wires inside glow.
When Kitty was initially asking about Fiyero faking being dumb, he may have slightly overestimated how smart he actually is. Though there's also no way someone could fake being this unfamiliar with all this stuff.
Kitty just watches as Fiyero gets the toaster out, searches for a powerpoint and goes through the whole process of plugging it in, setting it up and turning it on. He offers no helpful advice, figuring Fiyero will ask if he needs help or he can step in if it looks like Fiyero is about to do something dangerous, like use a metal fork to pull the Pop Tarts out of the toaster.
In the meantime, he gets up and grabs two sodas from the fridge, opening one and holding it out for Fiyero and the other he keeps for himself. It's probably a little late to be drinking caffeine so he's opted for Sprite.
Fiyero would absolutely do something like that. He's not entirely new to the concept of electricity, but it wasn't common enough in Oz for him to know all the common sense stuff. He does know it can be dangerous - which us also why he's wary of the microwave.
"Oh, thanks," he answers, still a little distracted as he accepts the bottle of water from Kitty. He opens it and takes a sip, then immediately does a spittake as he realises it's not in fact water. And some of this not-water definitely went in Kitty's direction, causing Fiyero to look rather alarmed and sheepish.
Kitty has returned to his seat at the island, sipping from his bottle of Sprite and continuing his watch of Fiyero making Pop Tarts. It doesn't even occur to him that they may not have sodas like this in Oz or that Fiyero would assume it was anything worthy of a spit take which is why he's completely caught off guard as he's sprayed in the face with the soft drink.
After a pregnant pause, Kitty lets out a shocked laugh. "Okay, I didn't think Sprite was that bad."

He's quickly distracted by the building though, looking around and taking it all in.
"This looks kind of like my castle at home," he observes as he follows Kitty in the direction of his room. "A lot smaller, but still."
It's hardly identical, but it's a lot closer than most of the architecture around this city. Makes Fiyero feel instantly a bit more safe and at home.

Having the room next door will definitely make it easier. He'll probably bother Kitty regardless of if he needs help or not, just for company.
"Oh, it's fine," he answers, finished glancing about. The bed looks warm enough, so if his is anything like that, he'll be fine. "Shared washrooms?"
