Kitty gives Fiyero a look because he definitely didn't make any such promise but he's also not upset about it. Fiyero drags him into the middle of the dance floor by his hand and Kitty has to force himself not to focus on the warmth of Fiyero's hand in his own.
For all that he focused on his past ballet career and made no real mention of having any ability to dance in a club setting, Kitty is also not a stranger to this scene. After all, he was a 20 something year old at some point not long ago and Jubilee still liked to party. That doesn't change that whatever dance moves he - and most of the other patrons - have, are anything quite like Fiyero's own. There's a ridiculous grace to his movements and Kitty finds himself watching more than focusing on his own moves.
Fiyero probably would've blended easier into a swing ballroom than the club scene, but despite being very recently arrived, it's not the first time he dances at a place like this, so he doesn't stick out as bad as he did the first time. The extent to which he sticks out is intentional and welcomed.
And there are some looks, including from Kitty himself. But as much as Fiyero likes getting attention, he also loves giving it.
As soon as he's had a moment to observe Kitty's moves, he adjusts his own a bit to better match - and then to actually dance together. Dancing is a conversation, and Fiyero doesn't want to be the only one blabbing on and on. He wants to invite Kitty to participate. Sure, twirling and dipping his partner might not work in this setting, but Fiyero's a quick learner - in this particular context, at least.
Kitty falls easily into the rhythm of Fiyero's moves, letting the other man guide their bodies easy enough. He's aware of the looks they're getting, more Fiyero than himself though he's also used to getting looks. Being a superhero came with perks after all, like a superhero physique for example, but Fiyero stood out even as he shifted into moves that fit in a little more.
It was probably a combination of his fluidity, stupidly handsome good looks and the extravagance of his outfit, even without his jacket on.
Not a lot of people here are wearing matching green and gold. Even his suspenders are embroidered. Without the jacket, it's not the wackiest look ever, but it sure doesn't blend with the crowd here. Especially with the knee-high boots, which are easier to dance in than you'd think.
Despite barely any talking happening, beyond the occasional sentence half drowned out by the music, the time seems to pass much quicker. Dancing is freeing, distracting, fun - and exhausting enough that you can't think that much afterwards.
It takes a while, Fiyero starts getting tired before Kitty, though he's looking kind of winded too. At least they're well matched in that regard.
As a song shifts seamlessly into another, Fiyero leans in close to be heard over the crowd. "Let's get a drink." He takes Kitty's hand again, definitely warm now and a bit sweaty, tugging him towards the bar. The bartender is there immediately, Fiyero ordering this time - but just two waters with ice.
It's far too easy to lose himself in the music, in the sway of his body and the way he and Fiyero seem to be so in sync despite the differences between them. It was true that Kitty was far less interested in hookup culture than the scenery suggested but dancing with Fiyero, he thought maybe he understood why this was such a big part of it.
And then he had to remind himself that this was strictly platonic because Fiyero was engaged and Kitty was just gonna be his friend and guide for the strange new world he found himself in.
It doesn't stop him from gripping Fiyero's hand a little tighter than necessary when he drags them off the dancefloor and to the bar for a drink. Kitty's almost shocked when water is placed down in front of them and he finally lets go to lift his glass, drinking the entire thing at once and waving for another.
Pushing his sweaty hair out of his face, Kitty grins. "That's certainly a better workout than superhero training."
Meeting Fiyero's smile he realised quickly that he was so fucked.
Fiyero downs his water as well, a little slower, his hair sticking slightly to his sweaty forehead (yet somehow still looking perfect) as he leans his head back, his Adam's apple bobbing. Letting out a loud, satisfied sigh as he finishes. He probably looks like a water commercial.
"Probably more fun too, huh?" he agrees, brightly grinning right back. Anything named 'hero training' was probably a bit more serious. "I get bored with too serious workout stuff. I want my exercise to be fun."
The innuendo is unintended. But he obviously doesn't have trouble keeping in shape.
Oh for goodness sake, there was literally no reason for him to be so stunning. Kitty lets himself be distracted by his second glass of water, focussing solely on the ice cold water and not how attractive his dance partner is.
"Helps when you have a good partner." He grins. "Though the Danger Room definitely has some pretty fun simulations. Remind me to show you one day soon.
"After we get your room set up and organise some new clothes. At the very least, you need to have changes for when we wash your current clothes. Though most of what you're wearing looks like dry clean only."
"I actually have no idea how dry cleaning works, I just know some materials can't just be thrown in a washing machine." Kitty shrugs, placing his now empty glass down on the bar.
"You wanna dance some more or are you ready to get out of here?"
Washing machine, huh? Having a machine for that sounds handy. Not that Fiyero has washed his own clothes very often.
"Oh, I'm satisfied. And wiped. Had a busy morning of running from the police, remember," he answers, giving Kitty a playful grin. He takes another big gulp of water, sets the glass down, then puts his arm lightly around Kitty's shoulders in a camaraderie way to head back to the table to pick up their jackets.
Kitty nods and waves the bartender over so he can close out their tab and get his card back before letting Fiyero lead them back to their booth. His arm is warm over Kitty's shoulders and he's hyper aware of it and he is really going to need to get himself under control.
The night air is beyond refreshing and Kitty lets out a loud sigh before pulling out his phone to order an Uber. "Car is three minutes away."
The cold air is nice on his face, though with the sweatiness, it's definitely a bit on the colder side. He's glad he's got the double jackets and even gloves, but he should really get a scarf or something. He's not used to this weather, and it does show on him, his shoulders raised towards his ears as he nods.
Kitty watches the way Fiyero huddles into his clothes, shoulders tucked up to his ears and he drapes his own jacket over Fiyero's shoulders as well, keeping an eye on their Uber on the app. When it's coming around the corner, Kitty shoves his phone back into his pocket and puts an arm around Fiyero's shoulders to lead him towards the car just as it pulls up.
Fiyero looks at Kitty with gentle surprise as he drapes his jacket around him. It's only 3 minutes, he would have absolutely been fine. But no, Kitty is absolutely a mother hen. Fiyero's surprised he's not colder himself, but Kitty must be used to it.
Thankfully the car is warm and comfortable, and he relaxes quickly as the driver greets them. Fiyero has to be reminded to put on seat belts - he's starting to get a hang on the subway system, but cars are still new to him.
It doesn't take long before Fiyero has warmed up enough to make curious and friendly conversation with the driver too, asking him about his life and stuff.
The one strength that Fiyero has in navigating this world is that he'll make friends with anyone.
Kitty certainly is cold but it's only a couple minutes and he's worn less in worse. It's not ideal but if Fiyero is responding to the cold this much with as many layers on as he has, then it's clearly not something he's used to at all. He makes a mental note to remember to get Fiyero a proper, decent winter coat when they go out clothes shopping. He figures if they can get the basics, get an idea of what size fits him the best, they can order more online.
Kitty smiles watching him talk to the driver. The driver seems surprised at first but falls into the conversation easily and Kitty's not even remotely shocked. Fiyero's charisma is really going to help him fit in and overlook anything that might seem strange in his Oz-isms.
So far, most locals just seem to brush his weirdness off with him being foreign. Makes things a lot easier - except with people who want to see papers about him being in the country.
It also explains the curious ways he keeps looking out the window - occasionally derailing the conversation to ask what a particular place is. The car ride goes by quickly.
"I like your driver," Fiyero says to Kitty, once they're back outside at the destination and the car is driving away. "How long has he been working for you?"
Kitty is mostly quiet throughout the ride, only really speak to answer any questions Fiyero has about places they drive past. Once they pull up outside the school, Kitty offers his gratitude to the driver and leads the way up the front steps.
"He's not my driver. He's an Uber driver. We have this app - application - on our phones where we pay someone to pick us up and take us where we need to go. You usually don't get the same driver." Pushing over the Mansion doors, Kitty leads Fiyero inside with a hand on his arm.
It's warm inside the foyer. "Home sweet home. C'mon, we'll stop past my room to get you something to sleep in and I'll show you to your room."
“Just think of all the new people you can charm with different Ubers. Though sometimes you’ll just have to have me as your driver.” If they can get the ID thing sorted, maybe Kitty could even teach him, though they’d have to start out slow while Fiyero is still figuring out the rest of the world.
“I don’t know why I’m shocked you live in a castle. You’re a prince. But I’m also still kind of shocked.” Maybe because he didn’t know anyone else who lived in an actual castle.
Leading him up the stairs and down the long hallways is easy enough. There’s lifts, of course, for Charles but this is the best way to familiarise Fiyero with the layout. There’s nothing really important on this floor, it’s mostly been separated from the student area and the school portion so the adults can have a little more freedom. Kitty’s room is between two empty ones and he opens the door and leads the way in. It’s nothing extravagant; a queen size bed with cozy covers in a navy blue, wood furniture that matches most of the Mansion. His desk is a mess; a computer, laptop and tablet buried under note pads and papers and all kinds of pens. At least he’d put his dirty washing in the hamper. He d the curtains closed and then turns to the dresser to find some pants and a t-shirt for Fiyero to sleep in.
“We’ll go shopping tomorrow and get you some basics but for now, these will be far comfier for sleeping in.” He holds out the sweats and top. “I should show you the kitchen after your room.”
Fiyero knows how to bike, so there's that, but the weather isn't really suited, and there's a lot of those metal carriages they call cars whizzing around. Seems maybe a bit risky. Besides, he's gotten the impression you don't really need it in this city. Though this school is a bit further out.
"Used to live. It's been years," Fiyero clarifies, chatting as he follows Kitty, looking around and familiarising himself with his surroundings. "We-- Glinda and I, we have rooms in one of the main towers in Emerald City. Though I often sleep in the Guard Quarters. You know, for work." Or at least using work as an excuse.
This place reminds him more of Shiz and the dormitories there. Makes sense, since it's a school. Kitty's room too, is more like a dorm than a full apartment. Fiyero isn't shy about wandering around and looking at things; it's another way of telling he's rich and confident, the way he strolls around like he owns the place. He glances over the desk, but he's neither nosy nor interested enough to actually read anything.
The clothes he's handed definitely are comfortable, and he tucks them under his arms for now with a soft 'thank you'. It will be nice to get more alternative clothes.
"Do you ever miss the castle?" Kitty doesn't ask if it's normal or not in Oz to share a room before marriage; mostly because it's not his business but also he knew couples that had their own room for various reasons and he wasn't about to judge. Besides, it made sense that he slept in the guard quarters. That was no different to him and the rest of the X-Men all remaining in the Mansion.
Kitty watches Fiyero look around his room with a hip resting on his dresser and arms crossed over his chest. "I think we'll give you the room next door for now. You can always move later if you want, but until you're familiar with the layout and whatnot, this'll be easier for you to find me if you need help. Is it warm enough in here or do you want me to find you some more blankets?"
Kitty just nods because he doesn't really know what else to say to that. If Fiyero wants to tell him about it, he will and it's too late to push him and risk ruining a good night.
"Well, I'll be right here if you need another blanket or something. And we can look into getting you more personalised comforters and stuff in the next few days." What? He just wanted Fiyero to be comfortable. It was probably going to be a lot more chaotic in the coming weeks than it had been in the last nine days, especially living in a house full of mutants. "In the student areas, yeah. But Charles had small ensuite bathrooms added to a fair few of these rooms to avoid awkwardness. It's nothing fancy, just a shower, sink and toilet but at least it's private. C'mon I'll show you your room."
Fiyero doesn't get an amused but also charmed smile at Kitty promising him personalised comforters. Fiyero is very aware that offering someone free housing is not exactly the norm in this world, yet he's going above and beyond.
"Ah, well, already better than my school days," Fiyero answers, turning towards the door and strolling alongside Kitty.
As they head out the door, Fiyero can't help but give a soft, teasing few clucks, good-naturedly nudging Kitty with his elbow.
"Yeah, I think there were a few too many occasions where Scott walked in on Logan with his ass out and so the decision was made that maybe we needed our own bathrooms." Of course, Kitty had also seen Logan with his ass out and he didn't see the same issue that Scott did but Scott was a prude and obnoxiously straight.
Kitty is halfway out the door when Fiyero... clucks at him? And he turns on the spot with a brow raised to stare at the other man. "Did you just... make chicken noises at me?"

"This looks kind of like my castle at home," he observes as he follows Kitty in the direction of his room. "A lot smaller, but still."
It's hardly identical, but it's a lot closer than most of the architecture around this city. Makes Fiyero feel instantly a bit more safe and at home.
